Sump pump installation is putting in a new pump system, either in a home that's never had one and is dealing with water intrusion for the first time, or replacing an existing pit and pump setup that's outdated or undersized for the amount of water the property actually deals with. A properly installed sump pump is one of the more effective ways to keep a basement dry long-term, but only if the pit, pump size, and discharge line are all set up correctly for the specific property.
You need this if your basement has taken on water during heavy rain and there's currently no pump system in place, if an existing pit has no pump or a pump that's clearly undersized for how much water shows up during storms, or if you're finishing a basement and want to proactively protect the investment before water becomes a problem. Homes with a history of even minor basement dampness during heavy rain are good candidates for installation before it becomes an actual flooding issue.
We start by assessing where water is entering and how much volume the system needs to handle, since an undersized pump is one of the most common reasons a sump pump system underperforms. We dig or prepare the sump pit if one doesn't already exist, install the pump with a properly sized float switch, and run the discharge line to direct water safely away from the foundation rather than just a few feet from the house where it can seep right back in. We test the complete system under real water conditions before finishing the job, and we'll walk you through battery backup options if losing power during a storm is a real concern for your property.
Cost depends on whether a pit already exists, pump size and capacity needed, and how far the discharge line needs to run to properly direct water away from the foundation. Properties in Anchorage, AK with a documented history of flooding sometimes benefit from a battery backup system alongside the primary pump, which adds to the installation cost but adds real protection during power outages.
